A specialist Religious Education and Art Teacher - I retired a few years ago. Now I am an Entrepreneur. I have created a Programme called The Seven Steps to Happiness. It is all about Reducing Stress, Building Resilience and Increasing Happiness. Before Coronavirus came along I gave Workshops and Retreats from my home. Now I am moving my work online. I share resources on TES to support my wonderful Teacher-Colleagues. Most are free but I spend hours on these so I charge for some of them. Enjoy.

The King James Bible - Old Testament

This year is the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. The BBC celebrated this event with a special day during which significant passages were read. I did my best to download them all as they can be used as a great resource when introducing the Bible or teaching Christianity - especially GCSE and A level These files relate to the Old Testament. Do make a comment or give some rating if you use any of my resources as it helps me to know what is useful and others to find the resources they need.

Bullying, Peer-Pressure, Faith in Action, Courage

This is something I wrote years ago, in the voice of my son, telling the story of what he went through when we moved to London. I think that there are many aspects of the story which could inspire or provoke useful discussion in both primary and secondary PSHE and RE classes.

This is a great way to introduce the world religions to KS3 pupils. Ideally set it in Autumn term so the observational drawing can stimulate some wonder-muscles. Cross curricular with science and art this approach gives a strong grounding for the world religions and is popular, improving attitudes to RE in the process.

Group work strategies with example from Sikhism

thoughts about Groupwork with a nice example on the Guru Granth Sahib. The power point is in process - but offers some good visual material. You can save any slide you like. Just put save as jpeg and then current slide for the ones you want. You can then insert them on a publisher file and arrange to print out as resources for the group-work exercise - I've done a few. + info about Gurmurki and Shabad Guru (spiritual sound in the writings and songs of the Guru Granth.) Thanks to ballykl (TES)and the Oadby Punjabi School for added files on Mool Mantra

Believing in God

Several ways of exploring this question in a dynamic and interactive way - which engages with pupil's own views as well as enabling them to explore a range of beliefs including atheism. The main approaches featured are group discussion and presentation - and poetry. A great collection of diverse perspectives and responses to The God Question is included and I will continue to add to this. All suggestions of texts / images / music to include would be most welcome.

Mother Teresa - a range of resources

So far there are just some good youtube links here..... More resources now added. Do let me know if you know of any not included here and if you have any way of getting the Malcom Muggerage TV documentary Something Beautiful For God which I used to use in teaching. the resources I found include a film made about Mother Teresa's life in 2003 which is really good. This is my 100th resource and I am really happy that it is about such a special person.

Reflections on identity, religion and racism

This document talks readers through a range of important topics, offering questions and activities at intervals for an interactive learning experience. Arising from concern about the rise in racism since Brexit and the fact that many in RE are non-specialists and may feel ill-equipped to explore complex and controversial topics like these I have drawn on my own experience of teaching RE to offer this resource. I aim to develop this, expanding it to introduce the major religions and adding illustrations, games and more related activities - but even in this form I hope RE teachers and teachers from many other subjects may find it helpful next term - especially with KS3.

Indigenous People's Jesus.ppt

This is a series of 14 slides depicting Jesus as Native American or Australian Aboriginal. It is in process as many images are not the right shape for a ppt slide so I will have to adjust them in Adobe. But it does give a great idea of the way that Christians everywhere think of Jesus as their Brother, as their Friend, His divine aspect is beyond the confines of one time or place, one nation or race.

John the Baptist - Story and Symbolism

(1)
this is a power-point, quite straightforward - giving an outline of who St John the Baptist was and outlining something of the meaning behind 8 symbols associated with him - The Head - The Lamb - The Shell - The Holly -The The Maltese Cross - The Reed -The Grasshopper and The Camel Hair. All suggestions for improvement and feedback or comments - welcome. I will be adding - after these images - all the texts which relate to St John the Baptist - but this is enough for teachers to work with so it is a useful start.

start of something great - to share everyone's favourite quotes and poems, good for exploring issues and putting up around the RE classroom. Some collections of my own favourites and bits from an RE thread on the subject of quotes. 133 quotes from wattsy85&'s fantastic collection. These are set out so you can print them onto A4 for laminating and display and saved as a pdf so they don&';t move around. Do send me your own favourites to share. I'll add more links later Thanks. 115 images and texts which explore life and meaning on earth encompassing many different faiths, races, cultures and ages etc on the way. Designed to use as part of a Community Cohesion programme to stimulate reflection and discussion - this should ideally be accompanied by music. It was designed with ‘Windmills of your Mind’ (All Angels version). I

BBC series The Story of Science - The Universe

(3)
Fantastic programme about how science has learned more about the universe. It starts with the Ancient Greeks and the concept of the earth being the Centre of the Universe and moves on to the Hubble Telescope. On a personal note, I would have liked more than a passing reference to other cultures as Hindu astronomers had the sun at the centre of the universe thousands of years ago - and the Arab astronomers learned from them when the Mogul empire extended into India, but for what it sets out to cover it does a good job. It also introduces the Big Bang.

Readings on the subject of Anatta - Buddhism

A selection of articles and reflections on the subject of Anatta. I include several sources which explore Anatta and some exercises including an essay outline. Pupils and students can also use silent reflection to explore self and change, just watching their thoughts. Afterwards write notes of what they remember thinking about + colour code these notes, to show which thoughts related to past, present, future or the world of imagination. Then discuss observations re Anatta and Anicca.
